Hair will grow about a quarter of an inch a month regardless of how often you cut your hair. However, if you never receive haircuts and/or trims you probably experience split ends, breakage, and stringy hair.
If you want to maintain beautiful, healthy, shiny hair it is BEST to frequently trim your hair. This removes the split ends from splitting up the hair shaft creating breakage which in return will make your hair look shorter and stringy.
If you are trying to grow your hair long I recommend that you get a trim every 10-12 weeks.
For people who enjoy the length of their hair and do not want it to grow too long too soon I recommend a trim every 3-4 weeks. (Men cuts, women's pixie cuts, short bobs, graduated "stacked" haircuts, etc.)
For people with thick and/or heavy hair I recommend a texturized trim every 4-6 weeks to freshen up layers.
The longer you wait for a trim the more you need to cut off the length of your hair. In other words, if you want long beautiful hair DO NOT skip out on your trims because one way or another you will eventually have to cut off those split ends... I honestly recommend you do it as they split and not as they have already split inches up the hair shaft.
