First, choose your styling product accordingly. If you have thick, course frizzy hair use a straightening balm or lotion, maybe a type of oil or serum. If you have fine or thin hair use a lighter product like a volumizing spray or mouse. After towel drying your hair, run the product through the ends. Comb through to evenly distribute the product.
Next, section your hair. Clip all your hair up except for a thin section near the back bottom hairline (neckline). Wrap your hair around a round brush and point your blow dryer down. This will help smooth your hair. If you dry your hair up with the dryer pointed towards your scalp you are going to be left with a frizzy mess. Always point your blow dryer down towards the ground.
When drying each section make sure to dry the hair from wet to damp, damp to dry, and then dry to smooth! Do not forget that last step. So often we get in a hurry and stop drying the hair when it feels dry. If you want smooth shiny hair keep drying until the hair cuticle feels smooth!
Continue on to the next section when you have finished with the last sectIon. Just take additional hair down from the clip leaving the top of the hair clipped up and repeat the above step. Continue until all the hair is dried.
The thicker the hair the thinner the sections need to be.
Once all the hair is dried, turn your blow dryer on cool. The cool air will help close the hair cuticle completely and keep the memory of the hair smooth. This also helps your hair to shine. I recommend that you do this with your round brush if you want added body to your ends.
If you follow these instructions I promise you that you will have smooth sleek hair. You can do it! It does require time and effort on your part but it makes a huge difference in both the health of your hair and the look of your style. The less heat the better! If you blow dry your hair correctly, you won't have to use a hot iron! :) Good luck. Let me know how it goes!!
Oh! And remember... If you should need to use a flat iron make sure to use a product on your hair that will protect it from heat! :)
